About the event
Composer Chandler Carter and librettist Diana Solomon-Glover weave text, music and history together tell the story of how the injustices of the Jim Crow South emboldened Fannie Lou Hamer, risked harassment, death threats and suffered police beatings to demand the right to vote for African-Americans; and how she shook the political world during “Freedom Summer” by helping found the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party. This compelling work was commissioned with support from Opera For All Voices
